Roman Spanier, 85, St. Joseph Roman C. Spanier, 85, of St. Joseph, died on Wednesday, May 23, at his home surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial was on Saturday, May 26, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in St. Joseph. Entombment was in the Parish Mausoleum. Roman was born on Dec. 28, 1921, in Farming to Mathias and Frances (Schmitz) Spanier. Roman farmed near St. Joseph for eight years. He moved to St. Joseph and was employed as service manager for Tenvoorde Ford. Survivors include his wife, Rose; children, Karen (Ray) Schindler of Sartell, Neil (Diane) Spanier of St. Joseph, Betty (Duane) Leither of Spicer, Terry (Kim) Spanier of Poplarville Miss., Judy (Roger Weischalla) Knettel of Sauk Rapids, Pennie (Chris) Field of Cold Spring, Pam (Jeff) Yurczyk of Sartell, and Patty (Neil) Loso of St. Joseph; brother, Orville (Jeanette) Spanier of Farming; sisters, Dolores Klein of St. Cloud, Viola (Elmer Schwinghammer) Backes of Waite Park, and Dorothy (Wally) Zumwalde of Richmond; a former daughter-in-law; 25 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was on Thursday, May 10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Tillie was born on December 13, 1905, in Spring Hill, to Frank and Mary "Lena" (Schoenborn) Winter. She was united in marriage to Peter J. Jonas on January 29, 1929, in Spring Hill. Survivors include her sisters-in-law, Sally Winter of Sauk Centre, Hildegard Ricker of Albany, and Sister Celine Jonas of Little Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, May 8, at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Interment was at Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud. Tony was born on April 12, 1934, in Eden Valley to Math and Mary (Kinzer) Lahr. Tony married Luverne Doty on April 17, 1971, at St. Augustine's Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Luverne, of St. Cloud; brothers and sisters, Irene Arnold of New Hope, Math (Carol) of Grove City, Clarence (Joyce) of Cold Spring, Lucille Lahr of Eden Valley, and Art (Carol) of Eden Valley.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 7, at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery, Zion Township. Lucille was born on Aug. 18, 1919, in Kimball to E.G. and Frances (Arnold) Loudon. She grew up in Watkins and Kimball and graduated from the Litchfield High School. She graduated from Litchfield Teachers Training and taught in rural Paynesville schools. She married W.G. Manz on June 10, 1942, at the Methodist church in Kimball. They lived in Kerkoven and Paynesville. Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer L. (Lowell) Becker of Cambridge; son, Gregory of Santa Fe, N.M.; two grandchildren; brother, Neal Loudon of Paynesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was born on July 18, 1937, to John and Helen (Meyer) Spanier of Lake Henry. She is survived by her husband, Mel; children, Nancy and Tom; sisters, Julietta Fuchs, Rosetta Olmsheid, Carol Zaczkowski, and brothers, John and Herbert Spanier.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 4, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roscoe. Burial was in the St. Agnes parish cemetery. Nellie was born on Sept. 23, 1917, in Roscoe to John and Veronica (Ley) Niewind. He married Estella Blasius on June 12, 1939, in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond. Survivors include his children, John (Darlene) of Richmond, Carol (Denis) Holthaus of Cold Spring, JoAnn (Leo) Ripplinger of Blaine, Mike (Kadie) of Montrose, Chuck (Alice) of Grand Rapids, Kathy (Mike) Phillipp of St. Joseph, Joe (Char) of Richmond, and Sue (Richard) Burg of St. Martin; 31 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Bernard (Natalie) Niewind and sister, Theresa Blasius.
