The Paynesville Legion team defeated Long Prairie 8-7 on Wednesday night, July 1, in Paynesville.
Nate Schutz pitched for Paynesville giving up just one earned run in seven innings of work, while striking out six.
Adam Miller led Paynesville in hitting going 2-2 with two runs scored. Bret Aagesen also went 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
Paynesville got out to an early lead by scoring one run in the first when Ben Bork led off the game with a single, then he scored when Bret Aagesen reached on an error.
Paynesville added two more in the second when Miller and Chad Fleischhacker led off with walks and they later came around to score on another fielding error by Long Prairie.
Paynesville then added one more in the third and three in the fourth when Shaun Fleischhacker doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Bork. Jon Lieser and Bret Aagesen both walked and they scored when Eric Hartfiel reached on a fielding error and Paynesville had a 7-0 lead.
Long Prairie scored four in the top of the fifth and Paynesville answered with one to make the score 8-4.
Long Prairie then added three more in the top of the sixth, but it wasn’t enough as Paynesville hung on to the win 8-7.

Paynesville lost to Swanville 14-1 on Thursday night in Paynesville.
Nick Stalboerger started on the mound for Paynesville and Garrett Williams threw relief.
Paynesville has a tournament on Saturday that starts at 10 a. m.

Roscoe defeated Greenwald 19-0 on Tuesday night June 30, in Greenwald.
Eric Kunstleben started for the Rangers and Chris VanderBeek threw relief. Kunstleben gave up only one hit in his five innings of work.
Brent Heinen led the way for the Rangers in hitting, going 3-3 in the game. Bill Albrecht and Kunstleben each were 3-4.
Roscoe scored nine runs in the first two innings. Ben Bork and Brent Heinen led off with back-to-back doubles followed by singles by Todd Leyendecker and Albrecht.
That set the tone for the game as Roscoe then scored six more in the top of the fourth and four more in the top of the fifth.
Roscoe cruised for the easy victory to go to 6-0 on the season.

Regal defeated Roscoe 8-2 on Thursday night in Regal.
The loss handed Roscoe their first loss of the legion season, making them 6-1 on the year.
Brent Heinen started, getting the loss for Roscoe. Heinen went four and two-thirds innings giving up five earned runs and 11 hits while striking out eight. Chris VanderBeek threw relief for Roscoe giving up one run in one and one-third innings.
Tyler Wuertz pitched for Regal going the distance and earning the victory. Wuertz held Roscoe to just two runs on seven hits in the game.
Ben Bork led the Rangers in hitting going 3-4. VanderBeek also went 2-3 in the game.
Dustin Looman, Scott Braun, Grant Adrean, and Chris Rohe all had two hits a piece for Regal.
Roscoe and Regal played even through the first three innings of the game, but in the bottom of the fourth Regal scored three runs followed by two more in the fifth and one in the sixth to get the win.
Roscoe played Spring Hill on Tuesday night and play Meire Grove in Roscoe on Tuesday, July 14.
