Nick Fuchs started on the mound for Paynesville, and he went the whole way, and got the loss.
Nobody for Paynesville was able to get two hits, but Adam Hemmesch, Dustin Humbert, Ryan Glenz, Brian Hartmann, Adam Jorgensen, and Chris Fuchs all had hits for Paynesville.
Paynesville was able to get out to an early lead when they scored one run in the top of the first inning.
With two outs Nick Fuchs reached on an error, and stole second. He moved to third when Hartmann beat out a grounder for an infield hit. Jorgensen drove Fuchs in with a base hit of his own.
However, Atwater scored four runs in the bottom of the first. They were able to get four walks and a base hit all in the same inning to contribute to their runs.
Paynesville had their chances though to catch up. Glenz led off the second inning with a single, and Humbert singled to follow him. Hemmesch drew a walk, with two outs to load the bases. However, Paynesville wasn’t able to come away with any, as Atwater made the third out of the inning.
Paynesville threatened again in the third inning. Chris Fuchs led off with a double then Nick Fuchs moved him over to third, grounding back to the pitcher. Hartmann came up and hit a line drive to the Atwater shortstop who was able to double off Chris Fuchs at third base.
It seemed that Paynesville just couldn’t catch a break in the game, and luck didn’t go their way.
Paynesville played Eden Valley on Monday and Willmar on Tuesday. They still have to face Willmar again on Thursday before playoffs start next week.
