Tangen, a 5’8” outside hitter, led this year’s team in several categories. Tangen had 353 kills (3.9 per game) and a kill efficiency of .24. She also led in digs with 487 (5.4 per game). She served 95 percent and had 38 aces.
Tangen also received several awards. She was named MCCC Player of the Week twice, made the Northern Division First Team, was named to the All-Tournament Team at the MCCC State Tourney, made First Team All-State and First Team All-Region. In late November, Tangen received the highest honor an NJCAA community college player can earn-she was named First Team All-American.
“Steph had an outstanding two years at Rainy River. It is going to be very difficult to replace her,” coach Mel Millebernd said. “Her powerful net play and aggressive back row defense were major factors in our team’s success this season. Her hard work, dedication, and love for the game certainly paid off.”
