Stars win twice to even record | ||||||||||||||||||||
The River Lakes Stars girls' hockey team won their fourth game of the season last week, beating Sartell 4-1 with three third-period goals at the River Lakes Arena in Richmond. Sophomore forward Allie Stalboerger scored a hat trick for the Stars, who won their second game in the Central Lakes Conference this season and their fourth game overall. Stalboerger scored in the first period, but Sartell tied the score a minute later. The score remained tied at 1-1 until the third period when eighth grader Kenzie Novak scored just 30 seconds into the period to give the Stars a 2-1 lead. Stalboerger scored again with six minutes to play and completed her hat trick two minutes later. Senior goalie Trish Wendlandt stopped 16 of the 17 shots she faced to earn the victory in goal for the Stars. The Stars, who played in a Thanksgiving tournament, do not play again until January.

The Stars earned their fifth win and evened their record at 5-5 by overcoming a 1-0 deficit with four third-period goals. Sophomore forward Amber Schulzetenberge scored the Stars' first goal less than two minutes into the third period, tying the score at 1-1. Ninth grade forward Tori Aretz scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal five minutes later to give the Stars a 2-1 lead. Sophomore forward Allie Stalboerger scored twice in the last minute, including one empty-net goal, to seal the win for the Stars. Senior goalie Trish Wendlandt stopped 16 of 17 shots for the Stars and also assisted on Schulzetenberge's goal. The Stars outshot Morris/Benson 37-17.
