Stars to play in holiday tourney in Willmar | ||||||||||||||||||||
Sartell scored three first-period goals and defeated the River Lakes Stars boys' hockey team 4-2 on Thursday in Richmond. After falling behind 3-0, with Sartell scoring two goals in the last five minutes of the first period, senior center Josh Engquist scored the only goal of the second period on a penalty shot. Then, just under four minutes into the third period, senior forward Max Lahr scored to pull the Stars within a goal at 3-2. The Stars could not net the tying goal, and the Sabres scored again with three minutes to play to make the final score 4-2. This week, the Stars (1-5) played at Fergus Falls on Tuesday night. Next week, they will play in a holiday tournament at the Willmar Civic Center. On Wednesday, Dec. 27, the Stars will play Prairie Center at 6 p.m. (with the junior varsity playing at 4 p.m.). On Thursday, Dec. 28, they will play host Willmar at 8 p.m. (no junior varsity game). And on Friday, Dec. 29, they will play Redwood Valley at 6 p.m. (with the junior varsity playing Willmar at 4 p.m.).

Senior goalie Brian Skluzacek made 55 saves for the Stars in a losing cause. Cathedral scored with three minutes to play in the first period and added three goals over the first 12 minutes of the second period. Senior center Alex Naujokas scored on a breakaway late in the second period for the only goal for the Stars. Cathedral scored a final goal, making the score 5-1, late in the third period.
