Stars beat Sartell, Benson/Morris | ||||||||||||||||||||||
The River Lakes Stars girls' hockey team swept two games last week, beating Sartell/Sauk Rapids 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday, Dec. 10, and beating Benson/Morris 1-0 on Friday. Against Sartell/Sauk Rapids, ninth grader Amber Schulzten-berge scored in the first period, but SSR tied the score in the third period with a goal. Ninth grader Marie Omann scored the game-winning goal in overtime for the Stars. Sartell/Sauk Rapids outshot the Stars 28-22, but junior goalie Trisha Wendlandt made 27 saves for the Stars. Against Benson/Morris on Friday in Richmond, sophomore Allie Stalboerger broke a scoreless game with a third-period goal. Once again, River Lakes was outshot; this time 27-21, but senior goalie Crystal Songetay made 27 saves for the Stars to record a shutout. With the win, the Stars improved to 3-5-1 for the season. This week, the Stars played Alexandria in Paynesville on Tuesday. They will also host Brainerd on Thursday in Richmond at the River Lakes Arena at 7:30 p.m.
