River Lakes defeats Princeton in overtime, 2-1 | ||||||||||||||||||||||
The River Lakes Stars girls' hockey team defeated Princeton 2-1 in overtime on Saturday to raise their season record to 3-5. Eighth grader Abbie Rhoda scored the winning goal for the Stars in overtime on a power play. She was assisted by sophomore defenseman Marie Omann and eighth grade defenseman Kenzie Novak, who also assisted on sophomore forward Allie Stalboerger's second-period goal. That goal gave the Stars a 1-0 lead for ten minutes in the second period before Princeton tied the score 1-1. Senior goalie Trish Wendlandt made 21 saves for the Stars in the victory. This week, the Stars hosted Sartell on Tuesday in Richmond. They will host their first game in Paynesville at the Koronis Civic Arena against Benson/Morris on Thursday, which is their last game until January.

Willmar scored two goals in the first period to take the lead. The Stars cut that to one with a goal by sophomore forward Allie Stalboerger in the second period, but Willmar answered with a goal to make the score 3-1. Again, the Stars cut the deficit to one with a goal by senior forward Kayla Nepsund in the third period, but Willmar scored three goals over the final 12 minutes to win 6-2. Senior goalie Trish Wendlandt made 28 saves for the Stars, who were outshot 34-27.
