Icebreakers edge Stars 2-1

The River Lakes Stars girls' hockey team outshot the St. Cloud Icebreakers 30-20, but the Icebreakers edged the Stars 2-1 at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud on Tuesday, Dec. 7.

The Icebreakers - a cooperative program between St. Cloud Apollo and St. Cloud Cathedral - scored two minutes into the first period and held that lead for nearly two periods of play, as the two teams went scoreless for the rest of the first period, all the second period, and most of the third period. The Icebreakers added a second goal with six minutes to play.

Ninth grader Kenzie Novak scored a power-play goal for the Stars (3-8) with two minutes to go in the game, but the Icebreakers held on to win 2-1.

This week, the Stars played at Sartell on Tuesday, Dec. 14, and they will host Willmar at the Koronis Civic Arena in Paynesville on Saturday, Dec. 18. This game was postponed from last week due to inclement weather.

Next week, the Stars will host Alexandria at the Koronis Civic Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 21.

Bemidji defeated the Stars 9-0 on Friday night in Bemidji. No stats were available from this game.
