Wrestlers take fifth at Foley tournament |
The Paynesville Bulldogs opened their 2003-04 season, wrestling their way to fifth place at the Foley Tournament on Saturday. The Bulldogs lost to state-rated Hibbing in the first round, 39-35, but beat Rocori (45-28) and Boyceville, Wis., (51-27) in the consolation rounds to take fifth place out of eight teams in the tournament. Pierz, a section rival of the Bulldogs who is rated #2 in Class A, and host Foley, rated #12 in Class AA, tied 29-29 in the championship. Hibbing, #4 in Class AA, beat Becker for third. Hibbing jumped to a 21-0 lead against the Bulldogs, getting three pins and a decision in the first four weights.
