Gymnasts edged by Dassel-Cokato

By Mandy Mayer

The Bulldogs suffered a heartbreaking loss against Dassel-Cokato in their first meet of the season on Thursday. The Chargers edged the Bulldogs by less than two points, 119.95 to 118.15.

On the vault, senior Amy Mueller was the only gymnast able to place. She took second with an 8.4.

On the uneven bars, juniors Mandy Mayer and Tessa Miller tied for fifth place. Senior Rachel Koehn had a beautiful routine that earned her third place. And placing first was seventh grader Kacy Nehowig. She scored a 7.9 in her first varsity meet.

On the balance beam, Miller placed fourth, Mueller placed third, and Koehn placed second, all having nice routines.

Koehn had a great floor routine and tumbled her way into fourth place. Mueller placed third.

Paynesville had three girls competing all-around and all three of them placed. Nehowig was fifth, Miller fourth, and Mueller third.

"We have the skills but the girls need to be tighter on execution and amplitude," said coach Deb Nehowig after the Bulldogs' first meet. "When we accomplish that, the close meets will have a different outcome."

The Bulldogs competed at Annandale on Tuesday. They will host Benson on Thursday night at the Lake Koronis Assembly Grounds.
