Nearly two dozen gymnasts start season |
The Paynesville gymnastics team looks to have a great season this winter. The team has 22 girls out for the sport. "I've been coaching gymnastics here for ten years and 22 is the most we've had out. It's great to see our numbers increasing," said head coach Deb Nehowig. Returning gymnasts and letterwinners are seniors Amy Mueller, Rachel Koehn, and Kelli Fenske; and juniors Mandy Mayer and Tessa Miller. Fenske, though, is out of action for now due to injury. There are no sophomores in gymnastics this year. Ashley Spanier, Ashley Karger, and Abby Lindeman are ninth graders. Returning eighth graders are Kayla Nelson, Jessica Kotten, Tanya Whitcomb, Maggie Frieler, and Tara Schmidt. New gymnasts this year are ninth grader Katie Nelson; eighth graders Kacie Wander, Megan Reeck and Lindsey Wyffels; and seventh graders Kacy Nehowig, Celia Frieler, Sam Chevalier, Tanis Beireis, and Brittney Spanier. The team will once again practice and hold its meets at the gymnasium at the Lake Koronis Assembly Grounds. The team hosts Dassel-Cokato in its first meet tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. The team also will travel to Annandale on Tuesday, Dec. 4, for a meet.
