Stars get first win of the season | ||||||||||||||||||||
The River Lakes Stars girls' hockey team got its first win of the season against Little Falls on Thursday, Nov. 21, winning 5-1. Playing in Little Falls, the Stars had three goals in the first period, while allowing one, to take an early lead. Amber Schultzenberge scored one goal and assisted on another in the first period, and Marya Losinski had two assists in the first period. After a scoreless second period, the Stars scored two more goals in the third period. Schultztenberge scored an unassisted goal, her second of the night, to end the scoring. Other goal scorers for the Stars were Marie Omann, Shannon Smith, and Janile Lewis. "It's fun to get the first win under our belt," said coach Kirby St. John. "The girls have improved in every aspect of the game." The Stars outshot Little Falls 36-8. With the victory, the Stars improved to 1-3 for the season. This week, the Stars hosted Litch on Tuesday at the Koronis Civic Arena in Paynesville. They will play next at St. Cloud Apollo on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

In the first period, the Stars had two goals and took a 2-1 lead, but the second period was especially hard on the Stars, with LPGE scoring five goals. Emily Krause scored two of these goals for LPGE. River Lakes scored only once in the second period. In the third period, LPGE scored two more goals, including another by Angie Johnson, who completed a hat trick, making the final 8-3. LPGE outshot the Stars 33-24.
