Soccer teams improve during second fall seasons |
The Chain of Lakes Soccer Club completed their second season with their annual banquet on Sunday, Oct. 29. Both the boys' and the girls' team showed marked improvement over last year. The boys' team won their final game of the season 2-0 on Monday, Oct. 9, over the St. Cloud Tech junior varsity. Tyler Theel of Rocori and junior Keegan Meagher of Paynesville each scored in the first half to give the team a 2-0 lead. The second half remained scoreless, giving junior Chris Block of Paynesville his second shutout of the season. The boys ended the season with a record of 6 wins, 2 losses, and 3 ties. The team scored 29 goals on the year and gave up 21. They started the season unbeaten thru eight games (5-0-3) before losing back-to-back games and then winning their season finale against St. Cloud Tech. This was a marked improvement over last year's 3-5 record. Against varsity competition the team was 0-1-2 this year. The girls' team finished the season with a 3-2 win over the St. Cloud Tech junior varsity on Monday, Oct. 9, and a 3-0 loss to the Becker varsity on Tuesday, Oct. 10. In the Tech game sisters Kailey and Jena Kincade of Paynesville each scored a goal, as did Courtney Malikowski of Rocori. Kasi Huschle of Eden Valley-Watkins recorded the win in goal against Tech. The girls ended their season with a record of 4 wins, 4 losses, and 1 tie. Last year, the team went 0-5 while scoring only one goal. This year, they scored 12 goals. Both teams wish to thank their parents and fans for all their support this past season and look forward to next year. The Chain of Lakes Soccer Club will be holding their annual meeting on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. in the seminar room at Paynesville Area High School.
