BBE eliminates netters from playoffs | ||||||||||||
The Bulldogs volleyball team won a close first game and looked ready to pull another upset in the subsection playoffs, but second-seeded BBE dominated the next three games and ended the Dogs' season. The Bulldogs lost in four sets to BBE in the Subsection 17AA semifinals at Osakis on Tuesday, Oct. 28. The Bulldogs won the first set, 27-25, but the Jaguars won the next three games by identical 25-13 scores. "The Bulldogs played an extremely strong first game against BBE. Then Tina Lensing was able to use her height advantage to spur on the Jaguars," said head coach Dawn Knoll. Lensing, a senior, had 33 kills for BBE, which advanced to the subsection finals but were swept by Albany. BBE finished its season with a record of 25-4. Senior Amy Roberg was 14/14 in serving and 50/50 in setting against BBE last week. Paynesville ended their season with a record of 9-12. For the second season in a row, they won a playoff game and advanced to the subsection semifinals. This year, the sixth-seed Bulldogs beat third-seed NL-S in the first round of subsection playoffs. But, for the second straight year, the Dogs lost to BBE to end their season. Last year, BBE beat the Bulldogs in a five-set match. "The Bulldogs had a strong finish to the season and should take the foundation that will be returning for next year and build upon it," said Knoll. "The seniors that are graduating in the spring will be missed, but the underclassmen are very capable to fill these roles."
