The Bulldogs boys' cross country ended their season by finishing seventh at the Section 5A meet at the Pierz Golf Course on Thursday, Oct. 27. The Dogs finished seventh in Section 5A for the third straight season. St. Cloud Cathedral (21), rated #1 in Class A, dominated the boys' race at Pierz on Thursday, placing six runners in the top ten, all earning individual state berths as well as a team berth. The Crusaders were sixth in Class A at state last year. Junior Peder Thompson, ninth grader Jamison Wall, and ninth grader Ezra Thompson run with the pack at the section meet at Pierz on Thursday. The Dogs finished seventh as a team in Section 5A. Senior Ryan Noack of Cathedral, an All State runner last year, won the boys' race at sections this year. He was followed by five teammates in the top ten. Cathedral, with six runners in the top ten, would have beaten an all-star team comprised by all the other teams in the section. Annandale (63), which won the Dogs' subsection, finished second at sections to also earn a state berth. Ninth grader Jonathan Kerzman led the Dogs by finishing 23rd overall. Junior Dugan Flanders was next for the Dogs in 30th. Junior Peder Thompson was 38th, and ninth grader Josh Sturtz and ninth grader Jamison Wall finished back-to-back in 43rd and 44th to complete the Dogs' team score. Also running for the Dogs' varsity were seventh grader Tanner Wendroth (48th) and ninth grader Ezra Thompson (50th). Ninth grader Josh Sturtz returned to the Dogs' lineup for the playoffs and ran 43rd at sections in 19:10. "Our boys are young and have made great progress this year," said coach Darrel Carstens. "We are looking forward to moving on up (next year)." Teams from Cathedral's subsection - Milaca (113), Mora (124), and host Pierz (129) - finished third through fifth. Litchfield (150) was next in sixth, and Paynesville (169) edged Howard Lake-Waverly/ Winsted (177) for seventh. The Dogs completed their season with the section meet.
