Netters advance to subsection semifinals

By Mindy Meagher

The Bulldogs volleyball team played their first subsection playoff game on Thursday and came out with a win.

They traveled to New London-Spicer to play the fourth-seeded Wildcats. The Bulldogs, seeded fifth, weren't ready for their season to end, came out very strong, and swept the Wildcats in three sets.

In the first set, the Bulldogs had great serve receive and were hitting the ball very well. The Bulldogs took a 13-4 lead and kept it together to take the first set 15-5.

The Bulldogs stayed in control of the second set. They again had great passing and placed the ball very well and won 15-9.

The Wildcats played their best that night in the third set, but the Bulldogs prevailed 15-13 and eliminated the Wildcats from the subsection playoffs. The Bulldogs did a great job of playing as a team throughout the match.

The Dogs' victory avenged a four-set loss to NL-S in September.

The Bulldogs played in the subsection quarterfinal on Tuesday, Oct. 29, against top-seeded Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa at ACGC High School in Grove City.

If the Bulldogs win, they play in the subsection final on Thursday, Oct. 31, at Belgrade. In the subsection finals, the Bulldogs would face either Sauk Centre or ACGC. The Bulldogs split two five-set matches with Sauk Centre this season and lost in five sets to ACGC in September.
