Season bests land Bulldogs in third |
Buoyed by four season-best times, the Bulldogs boys' cross country team placed third at subsections at Rockford on Tuesday, Oct. 18. Junior Dugan Flanders (18:12), ninth grader Jonathan Kerzman (18:13), ninth grader Jamison Wall (18:45), and junior Peder Thompson (18:54) all recorded season-best times for the Dogs and finished as their top four runners. Flanders was ninth overall and qualified for sections individually as well as with the team. Kerzman was 11th, Wall 19th, and Thompson 21st for the Dogs. Ninth grader Josh Sturtz returned to the lineup and placed 28th in 19:37, only a dozen seconds off his season-best time, to complete the Dogs' team score. Litchfield (85) just edged the Dogs (88) for second. Annandale, with five runners in the top six, easily won the subsection meet with a total score of 20. The top three teams were identical in the boys' and girls' standings: Annandale first, Litch second, and Paynesville third. "The boys ran exceptionally well with some of their personal best times," said coach Darrel Carstens. "They took third to advance but almost took the runner-up trophy home." "The boys were very spirited, relaxed, and had a fun race," said Carstens. "This is a very young team, and they are doing great." The top four teams and top ten individuals at subsections all advance to the Section 5A meet this week while the top two teams and top ten individuals advance from sections to state. The Dogs will run in the Section 5A meet at Pierz on Thursday, Oct. 27, starting at 4 p.m.
