Girls run fourth at Albany |
Sophomore Linda Keller finished second to lead the Bulldogs girls' cross country team to a fourth-place finish (out of six teams) at Albany on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Keller finished as the runner-up to senior Nikki Swenson of Lac Qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd for the second time this season, beating Nikki's younger sister sophomore Kelly Swenson, who was third. Nikki Swenson, who won the Class A cross country title as a ninth grader and finished second as a sophomore and junior, is the top rated Class A girls' runner this year. Sophomore Bri Jaeger recorded another top-20 finish for the girls' cross country team last week at Albany, running 19th for the Dogs. Keller, who earned All State honors last year by finishing 16th at state, is currently rated 11th in the state in Class A. Senior Tanis Beireis (18th) and sophomore Bri Jaeger (19th) also recorded top-20 finishes for the Dogs. Senior Kirsten Miller (30th) and junior Tarin Beireis (32nd) completed the Dogs' team score. The Dogs ran without senior Kacy Nehowig and junior Kaitlyn Frenchick last week. Coach Darrel Carstens said the top runners did well for the team, but its pack needs to improve. "With conference and sections up next, there cannot be any room for a slack performance," he said. "We have some key runners who need to have their best performances of the year. Our goals stand before us!" This week, the Dogs ran at Albany again on Tuesday for the conference meet. Next week, the Dogs will run in the Section 5A meet at the golf course in Pierz on Thursday, Oct. 26, starting at 4:30 p.m. Senior Kirsten miller was the dogs' fourth runner last week at Albany, finishing 30th overall.
