Boys edged by Lac Qui Parle Valley, take fourth |
The Paynesville boys' cross country team finished fourth out of six teams at their last regular season meet at Albany on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Eighth grader Tanner Wendroth recorded his second straight top-five finish to lead the Dogs. He was followed by senior Dugan Flanders in sixth, his sixth top-12 finish of the season. Senior Peder Thompson (19th), sophomore Ezra Thompson (23rd), and sophomore Josh Sturtz (29th) completed the Dogs' team score. Eighth grader Tanner Wendroth finished in the top five for the second straight race, running fifth at Albany last week. Ninth graders Kohl Nehowig (35th) and David Ruprecht (38th), in his first varsity race, filled out the Dogs' varsity lineup. The junior varsity Dogs - led by top-ten finishes by eighth grader Trevor Spanier (4th) and seventh grader Patrick Hoeft (10th) - finished fourth as a team. Coach Darrel Carstens said the top runners did well for the team, but the pack needs to improve. "With conference and sections up next, there cannot be any room for a slack performance," he said. "We have some key runners who need to have their best performances of the year. Our goals stand before us!" This week, the Dogs ran at Albany again on Tuesday for the conference meet. Next week, the Dogs will run in the Section 5A meet at the golf course in Pierz on Thursday, Oct. 26, starting at 4:30 p.m.
