The Paynesville Bulldog football team crushed the Montevideo Thunderhawks on Friday in Paynesville by a score of 40-8. Homecoming seemed to bring out the best in the Bulldogs as they came out ready to play and completely dominated the first quarter of the game.

The Bulldogs took the opening kickoff and drove 61 yards in 11 plays to score. The drive was capped off by a nine-yard touchdown pass from Logan Louis to Nic Glenz. The two-point conversion was good on a run by Josh Trees so the Bulldogs went up 8-0 early in the game.

Linemen Josh Schriefels, Jon Scheers, Jason Leyendecker (all hidden), Andy Torborg (77), Jack Nyffeler (79), and Nic Glenz (84) clear room for the Bulldogs' ground game.

The Bulldogs' defense then forced the Thunderhawks to punt after three downs. After the punt, the Bulldogs took over on their own 49-yard line. Four plays later, the Bulldogs were in the end zone again on a 12-yard pass from Logan Louis to T.J. Schultz. The big play of the drive was a 40-yard run by fullback Adam Schaefer. The extra point conversion was not good so the Bulldogs led 14-0.

The Thunderhawks' next possession saw them get a couple of first downs, but Nic Glenz stepped in front of a Thunderhawks' pass for an interception for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs then went 65 yards in three plays, thanks to a 44-yard touchdown run by Josh Trees. The two-point conversion pass was good on a tipped pass by Logan Louis that was caught by center Jason Leyendecker in the end, zone. The score at the end of the first quarter stood at Paynesville 22 and Montevideo 0. The Bulldogs had amassed 171 yards rushing in the first quarter alone.

The second quarter saw the Bulldogs defense shut out the Thunderhawks again while holding them to just 39 yards of offense for the quarter.

The highlight of the quarter on defense was Ryan Glenz's interception and 42-yard return. The offense continued to move the ball on the ground as they rolled up 85 more yards of rushing during the second quarter. The Bulldogs scored again on Milan Virant's three-yard touchdown run with about four minutes left in the first half. The Bulldogs went into halftime leading 28-0. Montevideo came out in the third quarter and proceeded to get a first down on their first possession of the half. But on a first down pass play the Bulldogs' Nic Glenz intercepted his second pass of the night and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good, so the score was 34-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.

A little later in the quarter, Louis threw his third touchdown pass of the game. The pass was a 31-yarder to T.J. Schultz, who had two touchdown receptions on the night. Again, the two-point conversion failed. The score was Paynesville 40 and Montevideo 0 going into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter saw the Bulldogs give everyone a chance to play for homecoming. Montevideo managed one touchdown during this quarter, which made the final score Paynesville 40 and Montevideo 8.
