The Class A boys' field contained 220 runners. Senior Matt Mehr led the Dogs in 30th place, followed by sophomore Dugan Flanders (76th) and senior Chris Utsch (90th). Eighth grader Josh Sturtz (121st) and senior Todd Thielen (131st) completed the Dogs' team score. St. Cloud Cathedral won the Class A title at Milaca, followed by Fairmont, Pierz, United South Central, and Sauk Centre. Both Cathedral and Sauk Centre are conference rivals for the Dogs. "We ran quite tight," said coach Darrel Carstens about both team's performances, "as we had a very tough week of practice. However, I expected better results than we showed. We need to put our varsity teams together at this point of the season and get going on some team goals." Paynesville had five runners in the tenth grade race and finished 11th out of 49 teams; they had five runners in the eighth grade race and finished 12th out of 60 teams; and they had six runners in the seventh grade race and finished 14th out of 54 teams.
