Netter lose in straight sets to Albany, Cathedral | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
On Tuesday, Sept. 17, the Bulldogs volleyball team hosted Albany and lost in straight sets to the state-rated Huskies. Albany scored the first seven points of the match and won the first set 15-6. The Bulldogs trailed only 5-3 in the second set but lost again 15-8. The Huskies won the third set 15-0. Sophomore Kendra Johnson moved up to the varsity squad full time this week and did an excellent job of filling a setter's spot. "This week was a transition week," said coach Sheila Mayer. Senior Mindy Meagher reaches to make a tip against a Husky player last week. State-rated Albany beat the Bulldogs in straight sets. Junior Amanda Glenz was strong at the net with five ace blocks. She also led the teeam in hitting, going 11/11 with three aces. Sophomore Valerie Callenius and senior Morgan Martinson also had three kills each for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs played a tough match but didn't have enough to compete with state-rated Albany. This week, the Bulldogs hosted Eden Valley-Watkins on Tuesday. The Dogs will play at Sauk Centre on Thursday, they will play at Kimball on Monday, Sept. 30, and they will host LPGE on Tuesday, Oct. 1. The B- and C-squad matches all start at 6 p.m. with the varsity to follow.

Cathedral 3, Paynesville 0
The Bulldogs came out strong and led the first set 5-0 but couldn't keep the lead and lost 15-6. The Bulldogs had a hard time playing to their potential. The Bulldogs lost the second set 15-10 and the third set 15-9. The Dogs played well but didn't play to the best of their abilities. "We need to learn to win, not just to play well," said junior Jessica Paul. The conference losses dropped the Bulldogs to 2-3 in the West Central Conference North and to 4-8 overall.
