Girls run fifth at NL-S meet |
The Paynesville girls' cross country team finished fifth at the New London-Spicer Invite on Thursday. The host Wildcats won the 13-team meet at the Little Crow Golf Club. Sophomore Kacy Nehowig, third overall, and ninth grader Kaitlyn Frenchick, 12th overall, led the Dogs and earned medals for their individual performance. Defending state champion Nikki Swenson of Lac Qui Parle Valley/ Dawson-Boyd won the girls' race by more than a minute. Her team, though, was edged by NL-S, which had four runners in the top ten. Sophomore Kacy Nehowig finished third at NL-S on Thursday, covering the 3,200-meter course in 16:25. Nehowig finished three seconds out of second. NL-S (63) was first, LQPV/ Dawson-Boyd (76) second, Morris (91) third, Redwood Valley (115), and Paynesville (135) fifth. Ninth grader Melanie Koerner (36th), sophomore Tanis Beireis (39th), who is still battling shin splints, and eighth grader Kally Felling (45th) completed the Dogs' team score. This week, the Dogs will run at Milaca on Saturday morning, starting at 10 a.m. This meet, formerly held in Princeton is believed to be "the world's largest cross country meet."
