BOLD romps Dogs 54-6 on gridiron | ||||||||||||
BOLD, a Class AA quarterfinalist last year, displayed their power, rushing past the Bulldogs 54-6 on Friday night in Olivia. The Warriors - a new addition, along with ACGC and Yellow Medicine East to the West Central Conference South this fall - rushed for 353 yards, with Trent Squibb leading the charge with 172 yards on six carries, scoring three touchdowns. BOLD scored touchdowns on their first five possessions of the game, being stopped in the first half only by the gun for halftime. The Dogs, meanwhile, gained only one first down in the first quarter and four in the first half, trailing 33-0 at halftime in their first trip to BOLD. BOLD scored again on their first possession of the second half, before the Dogs finally forced a punt. But the Dogs fumbled on their first play deep in their territory, and BOLD scored two plays later for a 47-0 lead. After an exchange of punts to end the third quarter, the Dogs drove 80 yards in nine plays to start the fourth quarter, after BOLD had pulled its starters. Sophomore Keegan Meagher ran four times for 31 yards on the drive and scored his first varsity touchdown on a nine-yard run. Senior quarterback Jamie Paul also connected twice with junior end Aaron Burris, gaining 29 yards, on the drive. BOLD (3-1 overall, 2-0 in the West Central Conference South) is tied for the conference lead with ACGC, also 2-0. Yellow Medicine East is 1-0 in conference play. (All three teams, by the way, were eliminated by Eden Valley-Watkins last year: ACGC in the section finals, YME in the state quarterfinals, and BOLD in the state semifinals.) EV-W finished second in Class AA last year. This week, the Dogs will host Morris on Friday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m.
