Girls win second race of year at Brooten |
The Bulldogs girls' cross country team won its second meet of the season on Thursday in Brooten, remaining undefeated after two meets on the season. The Dogs (76) easily defeated New London-Spicer (119) and Montevideo (132) to win the 17-team BBE Invite over the flat course at the golf course in Brooten. Sophomore Linda Keller won her second race of the season to lead the Dogs again. She beat the second-place runner by 51 seconds in winning the race. She is now rated 10th in the state in Class A. Sophomore Linda Keller - center, who earned All State honors last year in cross country and is now rated 10th in Class A this year - won her second race of the season on Thursday at the BBE Invite in Brooten. She won the race by 51 seconds. Senior Tanis Beireis also ran in the top 10 for the Dogs. She finished seventh overall for Paynesville. The Dogs had all five runners finish in the top 30 at the meet. Sophomore Bri Jaeger finished 16th, junior Kaitlyn Frenchick finished 25th, and senior Kacy Nehowig finished 27th. "The girls have had two big meet wins," said coach Darrel Carstens. "Our kids ran very well. We are pleased," he added. Senior Tanis Beireis recorded a top-ten finish as the Dogs' second runner on Thursday, finishing seventh overall at Brooten. This week, the Dogs will run at the Little Crow Invite, hosted by New London-Spicer, on Thursday, Sept. 14, starting at 4:15 p.m. This meet is held at Little Crow Golf Club, located between New London and Spicer. Next week, the Dogs will run at Pierz on Monday, Sept. 18, also starting at 4:15 p.m. Pierz, once again this fall, will host the section meet over this course.
