Boys improve at second meet |
The Paynesville boys' cross country team finished sixth in a 14-team meet on Thursday, Sept. 4, improving four places from their first meet at Morris, where the team took tenth. "We definitely improved from the last meet and because we are such a young team we expect to continue improving throughout the season," said coach Darrel Carstens. The Bulldogs finished behind Montevideo, Litchfield, Sauk Centre, New London-Spicer, and Albany at the BBE meet, which was held at the golf course in Brooten. The team was led by junior Matt Mehr in 26th with a time of 18:06. He was followed by senior captain Chad Wyffels in 27th in 18:10 and ninth grader Dugan Flanders in 32nd in 18:29. Matt Mehr rounds a corner on the course at BBE on Thursday. Juniors Jason Wendroth (42nd in 19:05) and Chris Utsch (44th in 19:27) completed the Dogs' team score, with ninth grader Peder Thompson running sixth for the team (55th overall in 20:41). The Bulldogs' junior high team again showed promise, finishing second out of the 14 teams. They were led by Jamison Wall followed by Nathan Friedrichs, Kohl Nehowig, Josh Sturtz, Russell O'Fallon, and Ezra Thompson. This week, the boys ran at LPGE on Monday. They will also run at Little Crow Golf Club, in a meet hosted by New London-Spicer, on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 4:30 p.m.
