Netters unravel after strong first set | ||||||||||||
The Paynesville volleyball team lost their first match in three games last Thursday to Sauk Centre, one of the Bulldogs' toughest foes in the conference. Paynesville came out strong in the first game and held the lead for most of the game. The Bulldogs had good communication on the court and were playing well by digging up all the Streeters' hits and serves and putting them down for a kill. Junior Hannah Braun served ten points in the game. The Bulldogs, at one point, led 9-5 before the Streeters rallied. Sauk Centre came back with good serves and won 16-14. The Paynesville Bulldogs lost some steam going into their second game, which allowed Sauk Centre to rally some points right away. Paynesville rallied but it wasn't enough to take the win. The Bulldogs lost 15-7. "We just lost momentum after the first game and couldn't get back on track," said senior Heidi Jansen. The Bulldogs were unable to pull together and lost the third set 15-1. Juniors Morgan Martinson and Mindy Meagher led the team with six kills each. The volleyball teams play at LPGE on Thursday, Sept. 6. They will host Melrose in their first home game on Tuesday, Sept. 11. B-squad and C-squad matches for both start at 6 p.m. with the varsity following after 7 p.m.
