Sebeka 4 The tournament was held in Paynesville over the weekend. Sebeka, including players who took second in Class A in the Minnesota State High School League Baseball Tournament this spring, scored four unearned runs to beat Paynesville on Friday evening. Paynesville stranded two runners in the first inning and had a chance to take the lead in the third inning. With Sebeka leading 1-0, Scott Thomes singled for Paynesville and later scored on a single by Josh Krupke, which were Paynesville's only two hits for the game. Krupke's single tied the score 1-1 and loaded the bases with one out, but Sebeka tagged out a runner at the plate and did not allow another run to score. "We couldn't get the timely hit," said Paynesville coach Brad Skoglund. "We had the bases loaded and one out and didn't score. That hurt." Sebeka scored another unearned run in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth. Adam Kampsen pitched a complete game for Paynesville and pitched very well, according to Skoglund, allowing only four unearned runs. Skoglund said credit has to be given to Sebeka for being a very good team with a deep pitching staff. "You're not going to win many games when you have two hits and four errors," he said. Sebeka went on to win the tournament, which had to be finished on Sunday, due to the rain on Saturday. Sebeka beat Royalton 4-0 in the semifinal and Holdingford 6-5 in the championship. Holdingford had defeated Cross Lake 10-0 in the other semifinal. Sebeka will now advance to the state tournament in Willmar this weekend. Other scores from the weekend were: Holdingford 3, Baudette 0; Cross Lake 10, Kimball 4; Royalton 13, St. Augusta 6. Skoglund thanked all the players for a fun summer of baseball, assistant coach Tim Beier for his help, and to Legion commander and the Legion members for their support and help with the district tournament.
