Lake Henry ousts St. Martin at regions | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lake Henry avenged two regular-season losses to St. Martin but ousting the Martins from the Region 15C baseball tournament in Richmond on Sunday. The Lakers beat the Martins 3-1 on Sunday, after both teams dropped their first game on Saturday. Lake Henry had only three hits against St. Martin but scored three unearned runs, using walks, stolen bases, passed balls, and errors. Jon Lieser scored a run in the bottom of the first for the Lakers, and Josh Kampsen and Lieser scored in the bottom of the sixth. Josh Kampsen had this ball in his glove but it popped out when he hit the ground. St. Martin had nine hits but did not score until the eighth inning. Nathan Schlangen doubled and scored on a single by Jesse Thelen. St. Martin loaded the bases and then Jake Thelen hit a line drive to centerfield - that would have scored at least two, maybe three runs - but Kampsen made a diving catch to end the inning. St. Martin beat Lake Henry 8-4 in May and 13-7 in July, but pitcher Steve Schreifels - a draftee from Richmond who shut out the Martins in July - pitched seven innings to get the victory on Sunday. St. Martin (22-8) finished 11-2 in the Stearns County League this season and swept three games in the league playoffs. But they committed nine errors and allowed eight unearned runs in losing two games at regions. Lake Henry (15-12) will play Norway Lake-Sunburg in the loser's bracket at the region tournament on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 2:30 p.m.
