Regal qualifies for region playoffs | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Regal Eagles beat Norway Lake-Sunburg 9-4 on Saturday to advance to the Cornbelt North final and qualify for regions. Though they lost 7-0 to New London-Spicer on Sunday, Regal advances to the region playoffs, which start this weekend in Roscoe. Regal scored two runs in the top of the ninth to force extra innings and then scored five runs in the 12th inning to beat Norway Lake-Sunburg 9-4 on Saturday. Trailing 4-2 with two outs and two strikes in the ninth, Ryan Schneider was hit by a pitch. Then Brandon Berg, Mike Mueller, and A.J. Hadley followed with three consecutive hits to score two runs for Regal, tying the game. In the 12th inning, Josh Krupke, Josh Eckstein, Pat Rohe, and Chris Beier started the inning with consecutive hits. Beier's hit scored two runs. A squeeze bunt, a double steal, an error, and two walks scored three more runs for Regal, who advance to the Cornbelt North final with the victory. On Sunday, Darrin Ogdahl threw a three-hit shutout for New London-Spicer, who beat Regal 7-0. Regal will play St. Martin, the Stearns County South champion, in the first round of regions at Roscoe on Saturday at 10 a.m.

St. Martin 5, Lake Henry 4
Josh Harrison doubled and scored the winning run for St. Martin on a wild pitch. Lake Henry had taken a 4-2 lead with four runs in the sixth inning. Adam Kampsen hit an RBI single, with a second run scoring on a throwing error, and then Doug Fuchs hit a two-run homer to give Lake Henry a 4-2 lead. But St. Martin scored a run in the seventh and another in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game 4-4 and force extra innings. St. Martin drafted pitcher Ryan Nett and pitcher Corey Mergen from Farming for the region playoffs, and Lake Henry drafted Roscoe pitcher Brent Heinen and Farming catcher David Jonas for the region playoffs. St. Martin will play Regal on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Roscoe. Lake Henry will play Spring Hill, the Stearns County North champion, on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Roscoe.
