St. Martin tops Lake Henry in 11 innings | ||||||||||||||
Jesse Thelen had an RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning as St. Martin topped Lake Henry in extra innings to claim the top seed in the Stearns County League's South Division. Both teams advance to regions this weekend in Richmond. St. Martin (22-6) swept Farming in their playoff series while Lake Henry swept Richmond. They played on Sunday in St. Martin to determine who would be the #1 seed from the south division. The Martins took a 3-1 lead by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Lake Henry tied the score with two runs in the fifth, but St. Martin scored another run in the bottom of the fifth to lead 4-3. The Lakers (14-8) tied the score in the seventh inning at 4-4, forcing extra innings. St. Martin outhit Lake Henry 12-6 but also committed five errors, leading to three unearned runs for the Lakers. Ken Arceneau earned the pitching victory for St. Martin with three innings of perfect relief. Region 15C will be hosted by Richmond over the next two weekends. Games start on Saturday, Aug. 2, with Spring Hill playing Norway Lake-Sunburg at 10 a.m.; New London-Spicer playing Lake Henry at 12:30 p.m.; and St. Martin playing Elrosa at 3 p.m. Games on Sunday, Aug. 3, will be played at the same times.
