Regal ousts Paynesville from playoffs

Regal eliminated Paynesville from the Cornbelt League playoffs, winning 9-3 on Sunday in Regal.

Pat Rohe hit a three-run triple in the bottom of the first for Regal, and Mike Mueller hit a two-run double in the fourth inning for Regal. Both hits came with two outs.

Out at third Paynesville started the game with just nine players and finished the game with only eight - playing just two outfielders - after an injury to first baseman Tyler Wuertz forced him to leave the game.

A.J. Hadley pitched six innings for the victory for Regal, and Chris Beier pitched three innings of shutout relief to earn a save.

Regal (7-9) now will continue with the Cornbelt League playoffs with a game at Norway Lake-Sunburg on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

The Pirates (7-9) end their season with the loss.

Lake Henry 7, Farming 0
Lake Henry shutout Farming again on Sunday, sweeping their Stearns County League South playoff series with the Flames without allowing a run.

Mike Stalboerger and Pat Mohs combined to pitch a three-hit shutout on Sunday in Farming as the Lakers won 7-0. Lake Henry had beaten Farming 2-0 on a one-hit shutout the previous Sunday.

In two playoff games, Lake Henry allowed only four hits and no runs.

Lake Henry (18-5) took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first as Adam Kampsen delivered an RBI single. The Lakers added another run in the fourth inning as Adam Miller doubled and scored on a single by Mohs.

The Lakers added a cushion with five runs in the sixth, aided by four walks from Farming's Ryan Nett. Kampsen had another RBI single, and Jon Lieser hit a two-run single for the Lakers in the rally.>{? With the playoff victory, the Lakers have qualified for regions in Roscoe starting on Saturday, Aug. 7.

This week, the Lakers will play at St. Martin on Sunday, Aug. 1, at 1:30 p.m. to determine the seeding for regions and to determine the order for drafting additional players for the playoffs.

St. Martin 18, Roscoe 1
St. Martin scored 13 runs in the sixth inning and beat Roscoe 18-1 on Sunday in Roscoe.

The Martins swept two games from Roscoe in their Stearns County League South playoff series, outscoring the Rangers 34-2.

The Martins qualified for regional playoffs, hosted by Roscoe, starting on Saturday, Aug. 7.

This week, the Martins will host Lake Henry on Sunday, Aug. 1, at 1:30 p.m. to determine the seeding for regions and to determine the order for drafting additional players for the playoffs.
