Lake Henry sweeps playoff series | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Lake Henry Lakers clinched a berth in the Region 15C tourney by beating Farming 15-9 on Sunday in Farming and winning their first-round playoff series in the Stearns County League South 2-0. The Lakers built a 10-2 lead against the Flames on Sunday. After Farming scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth, making the score 10-8, the Lakers responded by scoring five runs in the seventh and eighth innings, winning 15-9. Ryan Wuertz had three hits and five RBIs for the Lakers. He had a two-run double in the first inning, an RBI single in the second, and a two-run single in the seventh. Ryan Wuertz (12) had three hits and five RBIs for Lake Henry on Sunday while centerfielder Josh Kampsen had two hits and four RBIs in their 15-9 win over Farming. Josh Kampsen had four RBIs and scored three runs for the Lakers. He had a two-run double in the fifth and a two-run single in the eighth. Jon Lieser scored four runs and pitched the last inning for the Lakers. Farming scored five runs in the fifth, getting three straight singles to start the inning, drawing two bases-loaded walks, and getting a sacrifice fly and a two-run single by Chris Weseler. With the victory, the Lakers improved to 19-5 this season. This week, the Lakers will host Richmond in a one-game playoff for the league championship on Sunday, July 31, at 1:30 p.m.

Regal 6, Starbuck 3
Regal led 3-1 for much of the game, but Starbuck tied the score at 3-3 with two runs in the top of the seventh. Regal rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and another run in the bottom of the eighth to win 6-3. Chris Beier started and pitched six innings for Regal on Sunday. Regal broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and another in the bottom of the eighth to win 6-3 and stay alive in the playoffs. Regal is now 9-14 overall, including 7-7 in league and 1-1 in the playoffs. The Eagles will play at Norway Lake-Sunburg on Saturday, July 30, at 1:30 p.m. in an elimination game. The winner will play at New London-Spicer on Sunday, July 31, at 1:30 p.m.

Greenwald 3, Spring Hill 2
Todd Frieler and Chad Imdieke had back-to-back, two-out singles in the ninth innings for Greenwald as the Cubs secured a region berth with a 3-2 victory. Spring Hill's Jamie Terres had an RBI single in their two-run eighth-inning rally, but Greenwald scored two runs in the top of the ninth to win 3-2. Spring Hill trailed 1-0 until scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Jonathan Nietfeld and Shawn Schoenberg singled and scored on RBI singles by Eric Schoenberg and Jamie Terres to give the Chargers a brief 2-1 lead. Keith Frieler doubled and scored on a single by Dave Lensing in the fourth inning to give Greenwald a 1-0 lead. Keith Frieler pitched a complete game for Greenwald, striking out nine, while Shawn Schoenberg pitched a complete game for Spring Hill, taking the loss despite 11 strikeouts. Greenwald advances to play either New Munich or Elrosa on Sunday. (The Silverstreaks and Saints were tied 1-1 in their playoff series.) Spring Hill ended their season with a record of 6-9 in league.

Richmond 5, St. Martin 1
St. Martin, the regular season league champs with a record of 11-2, ended their 2005 season with an overall record of 18-5.
