Golfers qualify for state in Junior MGA

Heather Fuchs and Amber JensenTwo teams of junior golfers from Koronis Hills Golf Club qualified for state in Junior MGA competition last week.

The girls - Heather Fuchs and Amber Jensen - took first among the girls' teams in Region 3 on Thursday at the Elk River Country Club. Fuchs shot 92 for 18 holes, and Jensen shot 110.

The boys team - Ross Barten, Justin Bork, Zach Fuchs, and Mitchell Mackedanz - took second in Region 3 with Mackedanz carding an 83, Fuchs 86, and Barten 93. (For girls, MGA takes the top two scores. For boys, it takes the top three.)

The girls finished first in three district competitions to qualify for regions: second at Rich-Spring, first at Whispering Pines in Annandale, and first at home at Koronis Hills. Heather Fuchs had rounds of 89, 87, and 84.

The boys were second in their district , taking second, third, and first respectively. Mackedanz had rounds of 80, 73, and 76; Fuchs had rounds of 93, 81, and 92; and Barten had rounds of 96, 96, and 91.

The 36-hole state competition will be held at Izatys Golf and Yacht Club on Mille Lacs Lake by Onamia on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 6 and 7.
