Paynesville's American Legion baseball team split two games at a tournament in Sacred Heart on Saturday, July 13. The team beat Montevideo 15-6 and lost to MACCRAY 3-0. Against Montevideo, Paynesville pounded out 17 hits and scored 15 runs. Nine players had hits. Russ Leyendecker pitched the win for Paynesville, striking out four. Josh Kampsen pitched the final two innings in relief. Against MACCRAY, Paynesville was shut out and lost 3-0, despite outhitting their opponents 5-4. One highlight of the game was Adam Hemmesch making a Torii-Hunter-like catch, leaping up and reaching over the leftfield fence to rob a homerun. Another defensive highlight was catcher John Hemingson throwing out two runners trying to steal.

Greenwald 9, Roscoe 3 Against Greenwald, Roscoe started off the game with a three-run first inning, started by a Cory Christensen double and followed by three RBI singles from Russ Leyendecker, Mitch Callenius, and Justin Schlangen. Greenwald struck back, scoring runs in each inning except the second. Roscoe failed to score after the first inning. Against Lake Henry, Roscoe scored four runs in the first inning, but it didn't take long for Lake Henry to mount a comeback. In the third, Lake Henry scored seven runs on five walks and five Roscoe errors. Roscoe scored three runs in the sixth, but it wasn't enough.
