Grandson plays for Houston |
Eric Bruntlett - the grandson of Evelyn Bruntlett and Eileen Flanders, both of Paynesville - hit his first homerun of the season recently for the Houston Astros. Bruntlett was called up by the Astros from the Class AAA New Orleans Zephyrs on Sunday, June 13, and hit his first homerun on Sunday, June 20, in a 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Angels. In eight games so far in 2004, Bruntlett has two hits, a double and homerun, in nine at bats. He has played shortstop, second base, and outfield for the Astros. Last year, Bruntlett played in 31 games for the Astros, hitting .259. He played second base, shortstop, third base, and outfield. Bruntlett is the son of Angela and Craig Bruntlett, both 1967 PHS graduates. He grew up in Lafayette, Ind., and played baseball at Stanford University before being drafted by Houston in 1999. His uncle and aunt, Pat and Amy Flanders of Paynesville, witnessed his first homerun this season at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
