Pirates top Bird Island; Martins beat Farming | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Paynesville Pirates scored seven runs in the second and third innings and beat Bird Island 8-6 in a Cornbelt League game in Paynesville on Wednesday, June 23. Paynesville (6-4) scored four runs in the second inning and three in the third. Justin Butkofski had three hits for Paynesville, and Trent Hanson and Adam Hemmesch had two each. Seth Miller pitched all nine innings to earn the victory for the Pirates. Seth Miller pitched a complete game for the Paynesville Pirates last week. The Pirates will host Sunburg on Friday night, July 2, at Paynesville, with the game starting at 7:30 p.m.

St. Martin 2, Farming 1 St. Martin (10-1 in league, 15-4 overall) scored a run in the fourth and another in the sixth to take a 2-0 lead. Farming scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Martins held on to win 2-1. Nathan Schlangen pitched eight innings to earn the victory for the Martins. Kenny Arceneau pitched a hitless ninth inning for the save. Arceneau and Jake Thelen led the Martins at the plate with two hits each. This week, St. Martin will host Richmond on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Richmond 6, Lake Henry 5
Lake Henry (8-2 in the Stearns County League) scored three runs in the third inning to take a 3-2 lead and two runs in the sixth inning - on a two-run double by Ryan Wuertz - to take a 5-4 lead. But Richmond scored the tying run in the eighth inning on a wild pitch, knotting the game at 5-5, and scored the winning run in the 11th inning when Jeron Lieser singled to score Todd Steil. Richmond (7-4 in league) moved within a game and a half of the Lakers for second place in the Stearns County League South Division with the win. The Lakers are now a game and a half behind St. Martin for the division lead. Jon Lieser started pitching for Lake Henry and had four hits. Steve Schreifels pitched nearly six innings of shutout relief for Richmond to earn the victory. This week, Lake Henry plays at Greenwald on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Lakers will host New Munich on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Elrosa 19, Roscoe 0 Elrosa scored five times in the fourth inning and eight times in the fifth to break open a Stearns County League game against the Rangers. Elrosa pounded 18 hits, drew nine walks, and capitalized on two Ranger errors. Brothers Ethan and Aaron Vogt combined for a five-hit shutout for Elrosa. Roscoe (2-9 in league) used four pitchers in the loss. This week, Roscoe will play at Farming on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
