Regal bests Pirates

The Regal Eagles beat the Paynesville Pirates 11-3 on Sunday, for the Eagles' first victory in three games against the Pirates this season.

Paynesville took a 2-1 lead with two runs in the top of the third, but the Eagles stormed back with four in the bottom of the third to take a lead they would not relinquish. Regal added a run in the fourth, two in the sixth, and three in the seventh after the Pirates had scored to close the deficit to 8-3.

Mike Tangen had hits in all three at bats for Regal, and Brad Deyak added a two-run homer in the sixth for the home team.

The Pirates outhit Regal 13-12 and had four players with multiple hits, led by Jason Schlecht with three.

Paynesville dropped to 4-5 in league and 10-6 overall.

All Star Game
Ten players from Paynesville and Regal will represent the County Line League tonight when its All-Star team faces the best from the Central Valley League in Eden Valley.

Representing Paynesville are: pitchers Jason Schlecht and Dan Starken, first baseman Aaron Bayer, third baseman Chris Stanley, outfielder Darrin Michaelis, and Pat Mohs as a designated hitter.

Representing Regal are pitchers Wade Von Eschen and Nathan Winter, outfielder Mike Tangen, and Brad Lieser as a designated hitter.

Ryan Wuertz hit three of the Lakers five home runs, as Lake Henry earned their ninth league victory with a 15-3 win in Roscoe on Sunday.

Wuertz accounted for the Lakers' first five runs with a two-run homer in the third, a solo shot in the fifth, and a two-run homer in the sixth. Wuertz had seven RBI in the game.

Mike Stalboerger, who picked up the pitching victory, added a solo homer in the sixth.

The Lakers broke open the game with nine runs in the seventh, including a three-run homer by Roger Wuertz.

While the Lakers took advantage of the wind blowing out in Roscoe, the Rangers managed only two extra base hits, doubles by Tony Orbeck and Todd Leyendecker.

The Lakers improved to 9-2 in the Stearns County League South Division, while the Rangers dropped to 3-8.

The Rangers took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth, but the Silverstreaks proceeded to score 12 times in the next four innings to win 14-6 on Saturday in New Munich.

For the Rangers in the fourth, Todd Leyendecker hit a solo homer to tie the score at one, and Chris VanderBeek scored a manufactured run after walking.

But New Munich - led by Joe Hoppe who hit two solo homers and Pat Nathe who hit a two-run blast in the sixth - outscored the Rangers 13-4 after Roscoe took its 2-1 lead.
