Hess takes second in Duluth half marathon |
Jen Hess, 20, of Paynesville, finished second among women in the Gerry Bjorklund Half Marathon on Saturday in Duluth, held in conjunction with the annual Grandma's Marathon. Hess, who runs for the University of Minnesota, covered the 13.1-mile course in one hour, 24 minutes, and 28 seconds, finishing second among 2,384 female runners and 146th overall out of 4,407 finishers. Her pace was 6:27 for each mile. Also, competing in the half marathon from Paynesville were Chad Wyffels, 17, a senior-to-be at PAHS next fall and Scott Gibson, 49. Wyffels finished in 1:49:34, an average pace of 8:13 per mile, and Gibson finished in 1:57:42, a pace of nine minutes per mile. The average time in the half marathon was just over two hours. Camille Flanders, 22, of Paynesville, was one of the 6,800 finishers in the Grandma's Marathon. Her time was 4:23:13, a pace of 10:03 per mile.
