Hemingson to play in all-star series |
Senior John Hemingson has been selected to play in the Lions All-Star Baseball Tournament this weekend in Chaska. Hemingson - a catcher and pitcher who hit .458 for the Bulldogs this spring with five homeruns, 30 runs, and 25 RBIs - is one of 80 high school seniors picked for the all-star series. A four-year starter at catcher for the Dogs, Hemingson also was a main pitcher for the Dogs this year, going 9-1 on the mound with an ERA of 0.77. Hemingson will be the seventh PAHS player to participate in the all-star series, joining: Adam Kampsen (2004); Josh Kampsen (2003); Doug Fuchs (2000); Ryan Wuertz (1996); Marc Schmitz (1983) and Lynn Hemmesch (1978). Major Leaguers who have played in the Lions series include: Kent Hrbek (1978) (who roomed with Hemmesch) and Joe Mauer (2001). Hemingson will play with the Northern All Stars in the series. One of his coaches is PAHS head coach Brad Skoglund. Chad Willenbring of Rocori will also play with the Northern team. The schedule for the 32nd annual series has the North playing the Metro West on Friday at 7:30 p.m.; the Metro East on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.; and the South on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. All games are at the Chaska Athletic Park. Admission is $4 for adults; $3 for seniors and students.
