Lakers rip Rangers in Roscoe, 9-3 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Lake Henry Lakers built a 9-0 lead and beat the Roscoe Rangers 9-3 in a Stearns County League game on Sunday in Roscoe. The Lakers improved to 6-3 in league and 9-6 overall. The Rangers dropped to 3-6 in league. Ryan Wuertz hit a two-run homer to left in the third inning for Lake Henry, and Josh Kampsen hit a two-run homer for the Lakers in their four-run sixth inning. Herbie Weidner drove in three runs, including an RBI triple in the fourth inning, when Roscoe centerfielder R.J. Leyendecker and rightfielder Justin Mackedanz collided, injuring Mackedanz. Mike Stalboerger pitched a complete game for Lake Henry. The Rangers did not score until their last two at bats, with Rick Mackedanz having a double and two RBIs. The Rangers scored a run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly, but on appeal the runner was called out for leaving third base early. Lake Henry also beat Eden Valley 10-4 in an exhibition game on Wednesday, June 11, in Eden Valley. Doug Fuchs was 4-4 with a homerun and three RBIs for the Lakers. This week, the Lakers will play Melrose at New Munich on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. and will play at Farming on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

St. Martin 6, Meire Grove 2 Nathan Schlangen hit a solo homerun in the first inning to tie the game at 1-1, and the Martins scored three runs in the second inning and two more in the fourth to take control of the game. Luke Rothstein pitched seven innings, allowing only two unearned runs. This week, St. Martin will host Pearl Lake at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday and will play at Roscoe on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Seven Martins will take part in the Stearns County League All Star Game at Elrosa on Friday night at 8 p.m. (See below.)

Starbuck sweeps Pirates On Friday, the Pirates broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the top of the seventh inning, but Starbuck scored four runs in the seventh and three runs in the eighth to win. This loss dropped the Pirates' league record to 3-5 and their overall record to 4-5. On Wednesday, Starbuck's Tim Boiesley pitched a three-hit shutout as Starbuck beat Paynesville 4-0. This week, the Pirates will host Norway Lake in Paynesville on Friday night at 8:15 p.m.

All Star Game League-leading St. Martin has seven members in the game: manager Carl Lieser, pitcher Ken Arceneau, shortstop Luke Rothstein, outfielders Sam Rothstein, Nathan Schlangen, and Craig Hennen, and Jake Thelen as a utility player. Roscoe had five players picked for the game: pitcher Brent Heinen, first baseman Lee Schleper, second baseman Tony Orbeck, shortstop Greg Heinen, and outfielder Justin Mackedanz. Lake Henry has three players and one coach: coach Keith Lieser, pitcher Doug Fuchs, catcher Jon Lieser, and second baseman Ryan Wuertz.
