Lakers move into first-place tie with win | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Lake Henry Lakers defeated Richmond 3-1 on Saturday in Lake Henry - in conjunction with Lake Henry Hay Raze - and moved into a first-place tie with St. Martin in the Stearns County League South. Roger Wuertz pitched seven strong innings for the Lakers in the win. He allowed a run in the top of the first on a single by Brent Ruegemer, a walk to Jon Dold, and an RBI single to Scott Ruegemer and then shut out the Royals for the next six innings. Roger Wuertz pitched seven strong innings for the Lakers on Saturday in their 3-1 victory over Richmond in Lake Henry. Jon Lieser pitched two hitless innings to earn a save for the Lakers. Jeff Schmitz, who led the Lakers with three hits, tied the game at 1-1 with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth. Pat Mohs delivered an RBI double as the Lakers took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth, and Brent Lieser plated the last Lakers' run with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. Paynesville native Jeremy Glenz took the loss for Richmond despite allowing just three runs. The Lakers (5-3 in league) will play a home-and-home series with Farming this weekend. The Lakers will host Farming on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in a make-up game and then play at Farming on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Elrosa 3, St. Martin 2 The Saints, who lead the Stearns County League North with an 7-1 record, had four of their seven hits in the second inning to take a 3-2 lead off St. Martin starter Scott Schlangen, who took the loss. The Martins (5-3 in the Stearns County League South) scored a run in the top of the first - matched by Elrosa in the bottom of the first - and then another in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead. After that, though, Aaron Vogt pitched six scoreless innings for Elrosa. His younger brother Ethan pitched a scoreless ninth, despite allowing two hits, for the save. The loss dropped St. Martin into a first-place tie in the south division with Lake Henry. This week, the Martins will play at St. Wendell on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. They will host Roscoe on Sunday in St. Martin at 1:30 p.m.

Farming 9, Roscoe 4 The visiting Flames added three runs in the top of the ninth to win and move a half game ahead of Roscoe in the Stearns County League South. Farming and Richmond are 2-6 in league with Roscoe a half game back at 1-6. The Rangers squandered a 4-0 lead in the game. Russ Leyendecker hit a two-run homer, and Brent Heinen drove in a run in a three-run third for the host Rangers. Bret Aagesen hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth for Roscoe. But Farming tied the game with four unearned runs, three in the fifth and one in the sixth, thanks to the Roscoe defense, which committed five errors in all. Roscoe (1-6 in league) will play at St. Martin on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
