Martins improve to 8-2 in league

St. Martin 7, Richmond 4
The St. Martin Martins beat the Richmond Royals 7-4 on Sunday in Richmond to improve their league record to 8-2.

The Martins now lead Roscoe - which lost its third straight game to Spring Hill 9-4 on Sunday - by a game and a half in the South Division of the Stearns County League.

Carl Lieser hit a two-run homer in the second inning for St. Martin, and Sam Rothstein added a solo shot in the fifth, as the Martins took a 3-0 lead. They extended that to 5-0 in the top of the seventh, before Nate Guetter hit a three-run homer for Richmond in the bottom of the seventh.

Ken Arceneau pitched seven innings to earn the victory for St. Martin, which is 11-6 overall.

The Martins will play at Luxemburg on Friday at 6:15 p.m. They will host Lake Henry for a league game on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Sacred Heart 4, Paynesville 1
The Paynesville Pirates lost another pitcher's duel in a Cornbelt League game against Sacred Heart on Sunday night in Paynesville. Sacred Heart scored three runs in the fourth inning and beat the Pirates 4-1.

Jason Schlecht threw well again for the Pirates, going eight innings, but the Pirates dropped to 2-4 in league and 4-6 overall.

This week, the Pirates will play at Willmar tonight at 7:30 p.m. They will host Regal on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

Farming 1, Lake Henry 0
Farming 5, Lake Henry 4

The Farming Flames swept the Lake Henry Lakers in a home-and-home weekend series, winning two one-run games. Farming won 5-4 in ten innings on Saturday in Farming and 1-0 on Sunday in Lake Henry.

On Saturday, Lake Henry led 4-1, but Farming scored three runs to tie in the bottom of the ninth. Then Greg Holthaus hit a solo homer to win the game in the bottom of the tenth.

On Sunday, Farming scored one run in the top of the first, when Aaron Nett drove in his brother, Ryan. That turned out to be the only run of the game, as Ted Nett shut out the Lakers.

The Lakers fell to 3-6 in league and 4-7 overall. They are currently fifth in the South Division.

This week, the Lakers will play at Kimball on Friday at 6:15 p.m. and they will play at St. Martin on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
