Lake Henry pounds Meire Grove, ties for league lead | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Lake Henry Lakers pounded Meire Grove with 22 hits, beating the Grovers 15-10 on Sunday and moving into a first-place tie with St. Martin with league records of 6-1. After the Grovers took a 1-0 lead, Lake Henry scored four runs in the fourth inning with Adam Miller and Pat Mohs hitting RBI singles and Josh Kampsen delivering a two-run single. But Meire Grove sent 12 batters to the plate in the sixth, getting six hits, three walks, and a hit batter to score six runs and retake the lead at 7-5. Adam Kampsen hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to give the Lakers the lead again 8-7. The Lakers then scored six runs of their own in the seventh, with Jon Lieser hitting an RBI double, Adam Kampsen hitting another two-run homer, Ryan Wuertz following with a solo homer, and Jeff Schmitz adding a two-run homer. Meire Grove scored three runs in the top of the eighth while the Lakers added a run in the bottom of the eighth to make the final 15-10. The Lakers also beat St. Augusta in a road exhibition game 8-3 on Wednesday, June 1. The Lakers rallied from a 3-0 deficit by scoring four runs in the third and four more in the top of the ninth, with Doug Fuchs hitting a grand slam in the ninth inning for the Lakers. This week, the Lakers will host Atwater on Friday night at 6:15 p.m. On Sunday, the Lakers will travel to Richmond for a Stearns County League South game at 1:30 p.m.

New Munich 6, St. Martin 3
The Silverstreaks scored two runs in the first inning and three in the third to build a 5-1 lead and held on to win behind the complete-game pitching of Jim Thull. The Martins got within 5-3 on Sam Rothstein's solo homer in the fifth inning but were held scoreless over the final four innings as New Munich scored the game's last run in the eighth inning. The Martins (now 6-1 in the Stearns County League South and 10-1 overall) will play in a tourney in Eden Valley on Friday and Saturday this week. On Sunday, the Martins will host Elrosa at 1:30 p.m.

Greenwald 3, Roscoe 2
In the top of the 17th, after nine scoreless innings, Craig Schaefer walked for Greenwald, stole second, and scored on a two-out hit by Keith Frieler. The Rangers, who fell to 2-5 in the Stearns County League South and 4-6 overall, scored two runs in the bottom of the third but then were held scoreless for 14 innings. Brent Heinen pitched 11 innings for the Rangers, and Justin Mackedanz pitched five scoreless innings in relief before yielding the winning run in the 17th. This week, Roscoe will play at Upsala on Friday at 6:30 p.m., and they will play at Farming on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Spring Hill 3, Farming 1
Eric Schoenberg hit an RBI single in the eighth inning to tie the game at 1-1, and Dave Stalboerger hit a two-run, two-out single to plate the winning runs. Farming had taken a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. The Chargers improved to 3-5 in the Stearns County League North and 5-5 overall. This week, they will play an exhibition game against St. Wendel on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and will host New Munich on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Regal 2, Bird Island 1
A.J. Hadley singled in the first for Regal, and Fuchs hit into a fielder's choice and then stole second. He scored on a double by Josh Krupke, who scored on a single by Pat Rohe. Regal did not score again, but Fuchs allowed only six hits and only a single run in the sixth inning to get their first league win. This week, Regal (1-6 overall, 1-4 in league) will play at Paynesville on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and they host Starbuck on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Bird Island - Pitching: (ip-h-r-er-bb-k) Greg Helim (L) (8-5-2-2-4-8).
Raymond 10, Paynesville 8
The Pirates scored eight runs in their last three at bats, but Raymond responded with three runs in the bottom of the seventh and another in the eighth. The Pirates scored two runs in the top of the seventh to cut Raymond's lead to 6-2, two more in the eighth to cut their lead to 9-4, and four in the ninth inning to make the final 10-8. The Pirates fell to 1-4 in league and overall with the loss. Their scheduled game for Sunday at New London-Spicer was rained out. This week, the Pirates will host Regal on Friday night for a league game at 7:30 p.m. They will travel to Starbuck on Sunday for a league game at 1:30 p.m.
