St. Martin takes south lead; Meire Grove and Greenwald with victories | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
St. Martin built a 6-1 lead and defeated New Munich on the road on Sunday 6-3, increasing their lead in the Stearns County League South to a game and a half over Lake Henry. The Martins, who had 13 hits, led 4-1 before Jesse Thelen hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh. Scott Schlangen pitched seven strong innings for St. Martin, allowing only two hits and one unearned run. New Munich scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to make the final score 6-3. This week, St. Martin (8-4 overall, 5-2 in the Stearns County South) will host Avon on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and will play at north-leading Elrosa on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Regal drops two games The Eagles rallied from a 5-0 deficit against Bird Island on the road on Sunday, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh and two in the eighth to tie the game 5-5. Bird Island, however, got an RBI double from Mike Nagel with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to win 6-5. The game featured 22 walks. On Saturday, NL-S jumped to an 10-1 lead over the first four innings and defeated Regal 12-2 by the ten-run rule in seven innings. This week, Regal (5-6 overall, 2-4 in league) will play at Starbuck on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and at Norway Lake on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Meire Grove 5, Lake Henry 3 Jeff Schmitz hit a solo homer in the top of the seventh to tie the game 1-1 for Lake Henry. With a runner on and one out, Meire Grove had both runners reach safely on a bouncer where the Lakers tried for a force out at second. A sacrifice fly then scored the tying run, and Blaise Jacobson followed with a two-run double for the Grovers. Mike Stalboerger hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth to get the Lakers within 5-3. The loss dropped the Lakers to 4-3 in the Stearns County South, a game behind St. Martin in the league standings. The Lakers (5-6 overall) split two exhibition games last week, defeating Raymond 3-1 -behind seven strong innings of pitching from Jesse Lieser on Saturday - and losing to Dassel 4-3 in 11 innings on Wednesday, May 31. This week, the Lakers will host Richmond on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. as part of Lake Henry Hay Raze.

Greenwald 12, Roscoe 6 The Cubs led 8-5 before Frieler's blast in the bottom of the eighth. Roscoe added a run in the top of the ninth to make the final 12-6. The Rangers outhit Greenwald 11-8, but Roscoe committed eight errors, allowing six unearned runs. Justin Mackedanz and Russ Leyendecker each hit a pair of doubles to lead the Rangers at the plate, with Mackedanz having three RBIs and Leyendecker scoring two runs. Roscoe also defeated Regal 7-3 in an exhibition game on Friday with Leyendecker having four hits. This week, Roscoe (3-7 overall, 1-6 in the Stearns County South) will host Farming on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
