Mackedanz places third in subsection |
Junior Mitchell Mackedanz finished third at subsections last week, firing 77 over 18 holes, and qualified for section competition as an individual. The Bulldogs placed ninth as a team at the subsection meet at Becker on Wednesday, May 26. Mackedanz shot 38 on the front and 39 on the back at Pebble Creek Golf Course to finish third. The top 15 individuals and top two teams advanced to section competition, which was held at Rich-Spring Golf Course on Tuesday, June 1. Last year, Mackedanz missed qualifying for sections by two strokes at subsections. "Mitchell had a good day," said coach Todd Knudsvig. "The rest of the guys had some bad holes, and it took us out of the running." Sophomore Ross Barten shot 94, seventh grader Zach Fuchs shot 95, and sophomore Justin Bork and junior Cody Flanders shot 96s for the Bulldogs, who recorded a team total of 362. "Good improvement on the season (by the team) over last year," said Knudsvig. "If these guys continue to golf a lot this summer, we should be able to take another step up next year." Albany, which won the WCC North title this spring, won the subsection title by 14 strokes with a four-man total of 316. New London-Spicer edged Sauk Centre for second place 330-334. At sections, the top team and top five individuals advance to state. The Class A state competition will be held at Izaty's Golf and Yacht Club near Onamia on Wednesday, June 9, and Thursday, June 10. The boys will play on Black Brook starting at 8:35 a.m. on Wednesday and at the Sanctuary starting at 8:35 a.m. on Thursday.
