Jensen, Mackedanz advance to sections |
Sophomore Marissa Mackedanz and junior Amber Jensen both placed in the top ten individually at the subsection meet last week and qualified to play at sections this week. The Dogs' subsection meet was held at the Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker on Tuesday, May 24. Mackedanz shot 90 over 18 holes to finish seventh individually, and Jensen shot 92 to tie for ninth. The top two teams and top ten individuals not on those two teams qualify for sections, which were held on Tuesday, May 31, at Rich-Spring Golf Course. Junior Amber Jensen - shown putting in practice - shot 92 at subsections, finishing ninth, and advancing to sections. Sophomore Marissa Mackedanz - not shown - fired a 90 at Becker to placed seventh and advance to sections as well. Both Mackedanz and Jensen advanced to sections for the first time. Mackedanz, in only her second year on the golf team, is one of the hardest workers on the squad, said coach Ron Fuchs, along with her brother Mitchell. "She has come a long way, and I am very happy for her," said Fuchs. Mackedanz earned All Conference honors this year, while Jensen earned them two years ago. If they play well, and consistently, Fuchs believes either could advance to state this year. "I honestly think they are both capable of moving on if they can stay away from those big numbers you get every now and then," said Fuchs. The Dogs (439) finished 13th at subsections as a team. Their conference rivals dominated the meet, with Albany (353) first, Sauk Centre (370) second, St. Cloud Cathedral (392) third, and LPGE (403) sixth. If Jensen or Mackedanz qualifies, the Class A state golf meet will be held at Izaty's Resort and Yacht Club near Onamia on Tuesday, June 7, Wednesday, June 8, and Thursday, June 9.
