Roscoe 1, Greenwald 0 Roscoe 9, Meire Grove 2 The Roscoe Rangers continued their unbeaten start in the Stearns County League with two more victories over the Memorial Day weekend. The Rangers beat Greenwald 1-0 on Saturday and Meire Grove 9-2 on Sunday to run their league record to 6-0, the best start in Roscoe's history. They also improved their overall record to 6-2. Against Greenwald, the Rangers got strong pitching from the Heinen brothers, Brent and Greg, and scratched out the game's only run in the bottom of the third. Brent Heinen started and threw nearly eight innings of shutout baseball to earn the victory, allowing only five hits, walking none, and striking out seven. Greg Heinen pitched an inning and a third of perfect relief, striking out three to earn the save. Mike Heinen scored the game's only run. He singled to start the third, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lee Schleper, and scored on a single up the middle by Curt Christian. The Rangers, playing at home, got only three hits, but two of them were in the third inning. At Meire Grove on Sunday, the Rangers exploded for nine runs on 14 hits. The Rangers scored a run in the first on a double by Tony Orbeck and a single by Todd Leyendecker. In the third, they plated three runs, with Greg Heinen having an RBI double and Chris VanderBeek adding an RBI single. Mike Heinen had an RBI single in the fifth to drive in Greg Heinen, who had three hits and four RBI for the day, as Roscoe took a 5-0 lead. Meire Grove scored two runs to cut the lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth, but the Rangers responded in the eighth inning. With two outs, Curt Christian walked, and Brent Heinen, Orbeck, Leyendecker, and Greg Heinen delivered consecutive hits to score four runs. Justin Mackedanz earned the pitching victory with five innings of work. This week, the Rangers look to continue their undefeated league start with two league games. They will host New Munich on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and will play at Elrosa on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Lake Henry 9, Spring Hill 0 The victories are the third in a row for the Lakers, who opened the season with two league losses. The Lakers are now 3-2 in league for the season. At Spring Hill on Sunday, Roger Wuertz pitched a complete game three-hitter to lead the Lakers. He struck out 12 in the victory. The Lakers led 3-0 until the seventh inning, when Ryan Wuertz and Schmitz hit back-to-back solo homers to start the inning. The Lakers eventually scored six runs in the inning to break open the game. Against Meire Grove in Lake Henry on Memorial Day, the Lakers scored six runs in the first four innings, taking a 6-1 lead. After Meire Grove scored three runs in the top of the fifth to cut the Lakers' lead to 6-4, Lake Henry scored two more runs in the seventh and another in the eighth. Jeff Schmitz hit a two-run homer for the Lakers in the fourth inning. Mike Stalboerger earned the pitching win with four innings in relief of Doug Fuchs, who pitched four innings as well and led the Lakers with four hits. This week, Lake Henry will host St. Martin on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., and will play at New Munich on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

St. Martin 6, Spring Hill 1 The Martins beat Spring Hill 6-1 on Saturday and New Munich 9-8 on Sunday, raising their league record to 4-2 for the season. Kenny Arceneau starred against Spring Hill at St. Martin, pitching a complete game. He had a one-hitter going until the ninth inning, when he yielded two more hits and the only Chargers' run. Sam Rothstein hit a two-run homer in the first inning for St. Martin, who scored two runs apiece in the first, third, and fifth innings. At New Munich on Sunday, it was Luke Rothstein's turn to take the lead. He came within an out of pitching a complete game and capped the Martins' comeback with a three-run homer in the top of the ninth to break a 6-6 tie. The Martins held on to win 9-6. New Munich scored four runs in the first two innings to take an early lead, but St. Martin responded with a run in the fourth and four runs in the fifth. Single runs - in the sixth by New Munich to tie, in the seventh by St. Martin to lead 6-5, and in the eighth by New Munich to tie again 6-6 - set the stage for the dramatic ninth inning. After Rothstein's homer, New Munich scored two runs to make it 9-8 and had the bases loaded when New Munich's Pat Nathe flew out to deep center to end the game. St. Martin will host Lake Henry on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and will play at Meire Grove on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
