Rockford eliminates Dogs | ||||||||||||||
The Bulldogs softball team ended their season on Tuesday, May 20, with a 9-2 loss to Rockford in the first round of the subsection playoffs. Rockford took an early 5-0 lead, but the Dogs scored two runs in the fifth to get in the game. Sophomore Amber Chevalier scored on a passed ball and sophomore Ashley Spanier scored on a triple by sophomore Kayla Mackedanz. Rockford, however, battled back in the bottom of the inning, scoring three more runs. The Rockets scored one more run in the sixth. According to coach Tim Woehler, Rockford ran the bases better than any team the Dogs had seen, which cost the Dogs. Senior Ann Stalboerger (stepping on first base for an out) had two hits for the Bulldogs, who concluded their season with a subsection loss. The Dogs did manage to outhit the Rockets 11 to four but were unable to come back and take control of the game. Kayla Mackedanz led the Dogs at the plate with three hits, including two triples. Chevalier went the distance and pitched well for the Dogs, allowing four hits while striking out nine.
